about us
WHAT WE BELIEVE:
The following are the core beliefs of our church based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
GOD
God is the Creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is perfect, holy and unchangeable. He is the one true God and exists eternally in three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (commonly known as the Trinity). He becomes Father to all who receive Jesus Christ as Savior.
Isaiah 40:28; Matthew 3:16-17; Matthew 28:19; John 1:12-13
JESUS
Jesus is the Son of God and existed with God in the beginning. He was born of a virgin, fully God and fully man, lived a sinless life, died on the cross and was raised from the dead. He currently dwells in heaven with God and will return someday for His Church.
John 1:1-3; Matthew 1:23; Hebrews 4:15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; John 14:3
HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He brings us to a place of recognition of our sinfulness and the need for salvation. Every person who receives Jesus as their Savior receives the Holy Spirit. Additionally, Jesus promised to baptize believers with the Holy Spirit in order to fill them with God’s power for life and ministry.
John 14:16-17; Ephesians 1:13; Acts 2:38; Mark 1:8; Acts 1:8
SCRIPTURE
We believe that the Bible is the literal Word of God inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is relevant to today’s world and reveals God and His plan for living. It is absolute truth.
2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21
HUMANKIND
We believe that man was created in the image of God, but since Adam sinned all humankind has been born sinful. Human's sins separate them from God eternally in hell. The only salvation from our sinfulness and hell is through Jesus Christ. Those who receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior will be united with Him for all eternity.
Genesis 1:27; Romans 5:12; Matthew 25:46; John 14:6
SALVATION
Because we are born with a sin nature that we can do nothing about, God sent Jesus to rescue us from our sinfulness. Our sinfulness is taken away only through trusting in Christ for our salvation.
John 3:16-17; John 14:6; Ephesians 2:8-9
SANCTIFICATION
We believe that when a person receives Jesus, they become a new creation in Christ. However, renewing the mind and becoming like Jesus is an ongoing process. As we daily surrender, the Holy Spirit reveals truth, transforms us and empowers us to live a godly life.
2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 12:2; Colossians 3:10; Luke 9:23
BAPTISM
Through baptism we identify with Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Just as Jesus died and was buried, so we go under the water. Just as He was raised alive, so we also come out of the water. Water baptism in the Bible is always mentioned in context of repentance. Since baptism is always a subsequent experience to repentance and salvation, we do not baptize infants. One of the common questions about baptism is this, “Do I need to be baptized to be saved?”. Baptism does not save us, however to be obedient to God’s plan, we must be baptized.
Romans 6:1-4; Colossians 2:12-13
COMMUNION
What we call communion is referred to as the Lord’s Supper in the Bible. Jesus commands us to remember His sacrifice on the cross by eating bread which represents His body that was broken for us. We also drink grape juice (traditionally wine) representing His blood that was shed for the forgiveness and cleansing of our sins. We believe that communion is only for those who believe in Jesus and is to be taken with reverence.
Luke 22:19; 1 Corinthians 11:17-34
THE CHURCH
The Church is the group of people, throughout history, united in their belief that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died on the cross and rose again to redeem humankind from sin. The Church is represented around the world by smaller churches who are functioning as Jesus' Body on earth with Him as the Head. They gather together regularly for connection, worship, teaching, accountability and encouragement. Their mission is a continuation of Jesus' ministry to seek and save the lost and to disciple believers. We do all this to glorify God and to become more like Him.
Ephesians 1:22-23; Luke 19:10; Hebrews 10:24-25; Matthew 28:18-20; Matthew 5:16
CONTINUATION
We believe all the gifts of the Spirit and the ministry of Jesus to save, heal and deliver are intended for today. God gives each member of the Body at least one spiritual gift, through the Holy Spirit, for the building up of the Church; therefore, each member has a responsibility to serve the Body with the gift(s) they've been given. We believe God still speaks and that learning to hear His voice and respond is a vital part of every believer's growth and maturity.
John 14:12; 1 Corinthians 12; 1 Corinthians 14:1-5; Luke 4:16-21; John 10:27; John 16:13
MARRIAGE & SEXUALITY
Marriage is a biblical institution established by God as clearly described in the scriptures. It is the uniting of one man and one woman and is a picture of the relationship between Jesus and His Bride, the Church. God created male and female, and He designed the gift of sex to be enjoyed only within the context of marriage.
Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:21-24; Matthew 19:3-6; Ephesians 5:25-27; Ephesians 5:31-33
